Sharon's Throw-down Thursday
Researching Paranormal

Are you a true believer?

You don't have to be to write a paranormal, but if you want to tackle the genre it's a good idea to do your research. What better way to learn about paranormal activity than through experts.

Seriously! On Twitter I follow ghost hunters. There are people out there who specialize in combating paranormal activity. I've met a writer online whose Dad is a ghost hunter, and I was like "Seriously, why haven't you written a story based on your dad?"

There is a lot of information on the Internet, but don't use google definitions. Look for documented events that are unexplainable by logic, like The Mothman Prophecies. A lot of groups in these fields have newsletters you can subscribe to. Learn the lingo, the equipment used, the trends in paranormal activity. Is there geography that lends itself to paranormal activity.

Don't just google and go to the Wiki-definitions. Dig deeper and I'm sure you unearth great ideas with authentic storytelling value.
